Product Safety
All products should be safe. Fortunately there have been significant improvements in overall product safety levels in the past decade or so.
These improvements in product safety have been as a result of the introduction and enforcement of standards in recent years. These standards have been given force of law by National and EU legislation.
Legal aspects of product safety
Product testing and standards are in place to ensure that there is nothing dangerous or harmful about the products we use. Consumers who purchase products that are unsafe have certain rights under law and in the past number of years there have been radical developments in the law relating to product liability. How product safety is ensured!
The European Communities (General Product Safety) Regulations 2004 prohibits the placing of unsafe goods on the Irish Market. This means that any product placed on the market for sale must not present any undue risk to the consumer under normal its normal use. These regulations do not cover food products.
