Sustainable Living

Sustainable production and consumption means producing and consuming goods and services without harming the natural environment or society. This is the key to Sustainable Living. It means choosing a lifestyle that will protect and conserve natural resources, and that will help safeguard the health and wellbeing of all citizens around the world. For some this may sound like an ideal situation; but we have to hold to this ideal if we want to change the world in the right direction.

Even small steps at the individual and household level can help:

from taking showers rather than running baths, to using grey water for washing our yards; from cooking on a lower flame, to planning the weekly family menu; from switching off computers from the socket, to choosing energy-efficient appliances; from reusing scrap paper for shopping lists, to taking hazardous waste to special collection sites; from buying fruits and vegetables which have been grown within the region, to buying clothes which have a fair trade label; from walking to school or the local gym, to making fewer air trips annually.

The aim of this website is to describe this type of sustainable living; to explain the different options which are available when it comes to Food and Drink, At Home, Looking Good and Getting There.

We all have different needs ands wants. First you must learn to really assess what are your needs and wants. Then you must seek to understand better what your options are if you want to act sustainably.

What is financially possible? What will work best for you in the short- and long-term? What will be less harmful or more beneficial to others and to nature in the short- and long-term? What can you ask local shop owners, the Local Council, politicians, manufacturers to do so that you have options which are sustainable?

This should be your way of thinking if you want to be a global citizen. This should be your plan of action if you want to ensure a good quality of life for humans and a healthy planet in the near and distant future.
