Where does food come from?

All living organisms require basic nourishment for survival. Human beings have traditionally depended on food for their nourishment. But what is food? A legal definition of food does exist. It is in Article 2 of the regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council (28 January 2002): "Food means any substance or product, whether processed, partially processed or unprocessed, intended to be, or reasonably expected to be ingested by humans. How do we choose foods?
