Whereas no one can argue on the importance of hygiene, the quantity and choice of cleaning products used in the home has definitely reached excessive amounts to the detriment of our health, our pockets and the environment. Air quality within our homes is another issue which is often ignored. Before spraying that air freshener once again, have a look at this section.

Cleaning Products

Some form of cleaning takes place every day in households and for different cleaning tasks one can find various cleaning agents which aid in getting the job done. Unfortunately, a good number of these cleaning agents tend to harm our environment. Many of them contain toxic chemicals, such as ammonia, phosphates, chlorine bleach and others which are both health and environmental hazards. Read more

Air Quality

When we hear the word air pollution, most of us think of the air pollutants which are emitted outdoors; for example, from power stations, methods of transportation, burning of waste products, factories and other industrial activities. Few of us reflect on our daily practices which take place in our own homes which are also negatively affecting the air quality. If the house smells of cooking odors, or the air feels a little stale, we tend to get the air freshener out to freshen the indoor air and we think that we have cleared the home of air pollutants because it smells better. Other daily practices which could contribute to indoor pollution include spraying to kill pests, using cleaning agents that contain toxic fumes, using perfumes and deodorants, using glue and markers, and smoking.
