Enrich your students’ learning. Access active teaching and learning resources. Save yourself time!
Dolceta is a free online Consumer Education website that has been developing and expanding over a number of years. There are two main parts to the National Homepage:
1) Click on the icons in the Teacher’s Corner and you will access a range of curriculum linked lesson plans, fact sheets and teaching and learning resources. The resources cover the broad topics of Consumer Education and Financial Literacy. Each lesson is targeted at a specific age group (Primary, Post-primary or adult learners) and to specific subjects/curriculum areas in the Irish curriculum. The introductory section to each topic contains background information for teachers on the topic as well as relevant curriculum theory.
2) Click on the icons in the middle of the homepage and you will access a wealth of resources on consumer related topics. These articles were written with Irish consumers and Irish law in mind and also in the context of EU membership. The topics include, Consumer Rights, Financial Services, Product Safety, Services (electricity, gas, transport) and Sustainable Consumption. A new section, Food Safety will be added in 2011.
Make learning fun!
The Dolceta website has interactive quizzes linked to all of the lesson plans. These quizzes, which can be completed in school if the facilities are available or at home, allow users to have fun while learning. When you click on Quiz in the horizontal bar in the Homepage of every section you will get an overview of the quizzes available for that section. Each quiz has weblinks for further learning.
