Sustainable Consumption

Sustainable wellness and fitness

There are a large range of wellness and fitness products available to consumers.

When considering using these products or services, it is important that consumers understand the health risks, financial implications and how sustainable using them can be.

For example, using home gym equipment without following instructions or getting cosmetic surgery abroad can both be very damaging to your health and well-being.

There are many national campaigns in the UK aimed at influencing the way consumer products are used because of the impact they can have on our health and on the environment, such as:

- Five-a-day– this is aimed at encouraging people to eat at least 5 portions of fruit and/or vegetables everyday.
- Act on CO2 – aimed at getting everyone to reduce their carbon footprint.
- Change 4 Life – this encourages us all to make a change in our life and improve our health through food and exercise.

Green gyms, community activity groups and campaign groups for active living can all help provide information on more environmentally friendly way to exercise.

Swimming pools, saunas and spas in the home

A true luxury would be to have a swimming pool, a spa or a sauna available in your own home, however, in reality most people will have to travel to nearby facilities and share with other people. At least by sharing the local facilities or subscribing to a local health spa or gym, the costs of using these services are greatly reduced.
